The Beats
-
Abernaint
Our uppermost and longest beat, here the river meanders through farmland demonstrating a classic pool-riffle layout with easy wading over gravel shoals. The right hand bank is generally open allowing easy casting with trees on the far side shading the pools. A small section of The Anneth (a small spring fed river significantly used by sewin to spawn) is included and joins at The Junction pool at the top of the beat; other fishy places include Abernaint, Abercrymlyn and Dolbont.
-
The Mansion
The shortest beat but one of the most productive; comprising of two of our largest holding pools. This is a more intimate beat with tree lined banks granting a closed in atmosphere out of the wind. Gravel banks gently slope into the water and bedrock faces on the far side scour deep shelves for fish to hold against. This is a great beat for day fishing in a spate and night fishing when the water has settled. Fishing under a centuries-old stone bridge certainly adds to the mood.
-
The Shoot
Here the left hand bank is an open field with the pheasant pens on the sloped, wooded right hand bank. Our only beat fished predominantly from the left hand bank and the last of the gravel wading; trees jostling for space on the far bank reach over the river shading the holding water. A well balanced piece of water with large holding pools and intermediate running stops for high water fishing. Here the river starts to change character as it starts to charge towards steeper ground.

The House Beat – Private
Usually reserved for the family, this enclosed beat can be accessed by previous arrangement.
-
The Forest
Here the Cothi is set into the channel with sharp vertical banks and a small bedrock ledge running along the margin to stand on. Steep timbered banks rise from both sides of the stream and mature trees clinging to the bank overshadow the water; creating a unique atmosphere enveloped in the sound of rushing water and away from the sun and breeze. Lots of racey fly water and great sight fishing opportunities in low water.

The Canyon
Our lowest beat and arguably the most impressive. Bedrock cliffs and outcrops force the flow into dashing white water fosses creating some very deep holding water. Physically and mentally demanding to fish, any fish pulled from the torrent will certainly be a memorable one. Every pool is very different as the water finds its way through the gorge, swirling currents and deep pots contribute to the confusion – line control is the name of the game here, the lies can be difficult to cover effectively.
